Rick & Naomi Coleman, Project Managers, of Southern Cross Permaculture Institute (formerly PEDS) have been actively involved in permaculture application and education since 1990.
We are internationally recognised permaculture teachers and consult for a range of organisations, both in Australia and overseas. We teach Permaculture Design Certificate courses on our Permaculture property in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.

We run tours of our property by appointment, and conduct design consultancies for clients ranging from pre purchase assessments to sustainable property development plans for individuals and organizations.
With extensive experience in permaculture project development on every continent, Rick and Naomi are well placed to assist your organisation in identifying key priorities for a more effective and sustainable approach to a range of projects.
We specialise in assessment of community needs and resources, education of project field workers and members of indigenous communities, and design and implementation of sustainable solutions to a range of global problems.
Volunteers and Willing Workers On Organic Farms (WWOOFers) are an important part of our property development.
Whilst teaching a PDC in Tasmania in January, Rick was badly injured when a tree limb fell on him, leaving him with a crushed vertebrae, broken ribs and a fractured lower vertebrae. He was operated on at the Austin with 5 vertebrae fused together and is now recovering in Leongatha hospital.
Rick has remained positive and has a good long term prognosis. He is determined to be up and teaching again as soon as possible, and hopes to return to Tasmania for the PDC April 13 - 27th 2009.

It is a tribute to Rick's work on the farm that despite the heatwave and no one on the property for the last 7 weeks, that it is dripping with fruit and I was bottling apples and peaches last weekend!
Rick is walking already, and we are so grateful that he is alive and able to walk. We had a permablitz last weekend to raise some garden beds and plan to focus on our zone 1 garden for a while Our stall at SLF is going ahead with a team of our friends, teachers and past students on the stall.
Wwoofers and volunteers welcome from April / May onwards, we will need lots of help, especially as we are renovating and need to move back in.
Please contact us if interested in courses. Its business almost as usual! Thanks for all the support from past students and the permaculture community, it has helped us immensely.
Rick is home from hospital and making good progress walking with crutches and a brace. He is planning to teach on the PDC in Tasmania in April, and our November course is already booking fast.
Farm renovations are coming along nicely, and we should be back living there at the end of May, just in time for Rick to start driving again.
Thanks again to everyone for their good wishes. We look forward to seeing some wwoofers after May to help us get our new raised beds ready for Spring planting, and there's lots of general work to be done!

Our Jim's PDC course is finished with a number of new graduates to Permaculture with businesses ready to spread the word. If you are a Jim's Mowing franchisee interested in a PDC, or diversifying your business, please contact us.
